Long Range Planning

The primary objectives of the Long Range Planning program are updating and maintaining the Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) and other regional planning documents, such as the Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan.

The Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP)

The Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) documents the regions existing and the future transportation needs and projects within the SAWMPO over a 25-year period. The LRTP addresses safety, operations, connectivity, accessibility of the tarnsportation network for vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian, transit, and other transportation modes. The Plan also considers how future growth and develoment will impact the region’s future transportation network and what projects can address future issues.

The SAWMPO Policy Board approved the 2050 LRTP on December 17, 2025. View the full document here: SAWMPO 2050 LRTP.

The main chapter of the 2050 LRTP is the Constrained Long Range Plan (CLRP) list, which identifies priority transportation projects that could potentially be funded over the next 25-years based on projected revenues from grants and other sources within the MPO area.
