Transportation Improvement Program (TIP)
The Staunton-Augusta-Waynesboro Metropolitan Planning Organization (SAWMPO) Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) is a prioritized, fiscally-constrained, four-year list of federally funded and/or regionally significant transportation projects and improvements within the SAWMPO area. The program includes projects for all modes of surface transportation including highways and streets, public transportation, and walking and bicycling. Projects in the TIP must be prioritized at the regional level, and have clearly identified funding sources via the Long Range Transportation Plan.
The SAWMPO works with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to approve the Highway portion of the TIP and the Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) to approve the Transit portion of the TIP. Each TIP is adopted only once every four years and it can be amended to account for changes in funding or project needs. View the Highway and Transit TIPs below.
